Secretary Wilson Announces $3.7 Million in ETF Deals at BIO International Convention
Receptor Logic and Terapio Corporation to Receive ETF Awards for Biotechnology Research and Development

SAN DIEGO – During the 2008 BIO International Convention, hosted by the Biotechnology Industry Organization, Secretary of State Phil Wilson announced two new Texas Emerging Technology Fund (TETF) investments to advance Texas’ biotech activities. The two investments, totaling $3.7 million, will add to the $49 million Texas has already invested in biotech research and development activities throughout the state. Recpetor Logic, Ltd of Abilene TX will receive $2 million and Terapio Corporation of Austin will receive $1.7 million.
“The Texas Emerging Technology Fund was created with the objective to revolutionize our state’s technology industries to improve the lives of Texans through new medical breakthroughs and scientific research,” stated Wilson. “The investments made today in these two biotech entities will drive us even farther in surpassing our goals and position Texas as a stronger leader in the economy of tomorrow.”
Both companies received awards for the advancement of biotechnology research and product development for the state of Texas.

Texas Announces ETF Investment in Trauma Care Research Friday, May 09, 2008

AUSTIN - Governor Rick Perry, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and Speaker Tom Craddick today announced a $5 million investment through the Texas Emerging Technology Fund (TETF) to recruit leading scientists and surgeons in trauma care and next-generation medical technologies to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC-H) for the newly-created Center for Transitional Injury Research (CeTIR).
"The Emerging Technology Fund makes Texas a global competitor in drawing the brightest minds in research and innovation to our state," said Gov. Perry. "Medical breakthroughs should never rest on a shelf, but rather be brought to the marketplace to help those in need. Continued expansion of our research and development capabilities in medical technologies will create more jobs, generate substantial capital investments, and most importantly, aid those who are suffering at home and around the world."
In addition to the TETF's investment, UTHSC-H, Memorial Hermann Hospital System and the University of Texas System Medical Foundation have pledged nearly $13 million to establish the CeTIR and attract a world-class team of experts in medical research and trauma care.

World-Class Research Talent Will Bolster Texas’ Role in Diverse Field of Nanophotonics
LUBBOCK – Gov. Rick Perry today announced a $2 million investment through the Texas Emerging Technology Fund (TETF) to Texas Tech University to recruit renowned experts in nanophotonics technology, establishing a world-class center in applied nanophotonics at the College of Engineering’s Nano Tech Center.
"The Emerging Technology Fund continues to enable us to draw the brightest minds in research and innovation to our state, spurring the commercialization of university research, and ultimately positioning Texas as a strong competitor in the global marketplace," said Gov. Perry. "Continued expansion of our research and development capabilities in critical fields, such as nanophotonics, will create more jobs and generate substantial capital investments, further diversifying and enriching our economy."
